“
It Could Be You” was screened at the Siri Fort Auditorium on the 16th of July during the 8th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival for Asian Cinema in New Delhi. The opening film in the Indian Competition Section was viewed by a 120 strong audience consisting of College Students, Media Journalists, Film Buffs and Delegates.

Introducing the
Director and the Film to the audience Latika Padgaunkar, Festival Selection Panelist said “
…I think you guys are in for a lot of fun and enjoyment now…”
The first public screening of the film it drew applause from the majority of the audience and kicked up a quite debate on the relevance of Asian Cinema in the context of the Non Resident Indian.

Setuka Mahajan of the PTI observed that the story of a dysfunctional family grappling with its identity had become the leitmotif for more directors to explore and felt that it had a growing relevance to the state of affairs of the Asians living abroad, Punjabis in particular.
While Kirron Kher’s performance as Mrs Dhillon in the film drew chuckles and oodles of laughter from many a viewer, it was the poignant relationship between Mr Dhillon (Naseeruddin Shah) and Sr Dhillon (Ravi Baswani) that elicited a warm response.

“
It seems that the only real friend Dhillon has is his father…it does highlight the alienation of the first generation from the younger generation…” said Roger Garcia, Program Consultant for the Torino Film Festival, Italy and the San Francisco International Film Festival, USA.
“
I almost felt like slapping her (Kirron Kher) and killing that Dave (Ameet Chana) for being so mean to Dhillon” remarked Latika Padgaunkar, Selection Panelist for the Osian’s festival. “
They were a perfect foil to each other (Naseer and Kirron)…”
Truly an inspiring moment for all of us at the Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival!
