The initial idea stemmed in August 2001 while I was in London scripting on another film during a conversation with the writer Avtar Panesar, a film distributor and head of operations Yash Raj Films, UK and his brother Raj Panesar who expressed his view of wanting to watch a film in which an Asian wins the lotto…

And very soon what started as an innocent conversation developed into a film. Characters were born, Mr Dhillon, Mrs Dhillon, the whole family, heroes, protagonists, action, comedy, then the locations, sets, props and a thousand other things that one would have never imagined.

Then started the quest to Cast and very soon the actors came along Naseeruddin Shah, Kirron Kher, Ameet Channa, Mukesh Rishi etc., they all liked the idea, the treatment and were very excited to be a part of it. And as we spent time with them a lot of suggestions kept coming in.

A whole lot of things were changed before the filming. A final version of the script was given in by the writer and we started filming in March, 2005. Then masses of things were changed during the filming. The actors changed the dialogue, too; they came up with their suggestions that they wanted to appear in the scene in a particular way; and if it all worked I said yes and thus was born a true team effort by the Actors, Writer, Director, Camera and Sound.

It truly has been a learning experience through the writing, filming, and the post production stages of the film; And as the title would suggest to every earnest man or woman “It Could Be You”.
